Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed them and everything you had to say was super useful - thanks for taking the time. I have a huge blush after that 'real talent' comment! :-)
I'll read back the first two chapters now that I'm more 'far away' from them and try to 'speed things up' a bit with full stops and less desciption - Owl's thoughts tend to be a bit slowed down, especially when he panics, but I really get what you mean. I probably won't remove the description completely but I'll move it elsewhere?
I might post the third and fourth chapters together, maybe next week - but maybe not. Either way, I'll let you know how it's going!
I hope you're well, too. I've read that things have been a struggle, but I hope they get much better soon. Try to keep hold of those spoons!

Hi Katy,
Just finished reading your first two chapters. I think they are really good and show a lot of promise for what is to come.

I love the way in which you so vividly describe whats going on, I think its a real talent. However I would recommend using less description during action sequences as it slows down the rate at which the reader absorbs the story and so makes the action seem less present and immediate.

Also you use a lot of run on sentences, (Something I do this a lot). Some of your sentences are four lines long. for the average reader this makes your train of thought hard to follow. so use more full stops.

Hope that is useful. Remember I am by no means qualified to give creative writing advice but just wanted to be encouraging (I hope I was).

Good luck with the rest of the book. I look forward to reading it!

All veggies are good veggies! I just buy lots of vegetables because they're nice and cheap, but I eat lots and lots of pasta too... And lots of cheese! And I have to admit, I've never had ratatouille...

Gosh, your haiku is great haha, and i must confess that you are quite a "better" veggie than I am. I eat waaaay too much pasta. I'm not used to cook too much vegs actually, i prefer them raw, in salads. But i adore ratatouille :)

Aside from quorny substitutes, there are still loads of choices out there; some of my favourite things-to-go-with-chips include grilled halloumi (AKA squeaky cheese), veggie lasagne with loads of veg instead of quorn-mince and this really amazing squash and feta pie (http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/food/higgidy-little-moroccan-vegetable-feta-pie/1357649/). So good!
If all else fails, you can't go wrong with some really cheesey pizza.

I'm trying to become a veggie, by gradually replacing my foodstuffs with meat-free alteratives. It's a slow process (damn, I love bacon), but I will convert in the future!

One thing I can never get right though, maybe you could help me: when you want to serve something with chips, what can you have apart from the Quorn meat-free substitutes (e.g. meat-free sausages, burgers, chicken fillets, etc)? I mean, you can't just have broccoli and chips, right?
